Punjab: ED arrests CM Channi’s nephew in money laundering case

CHANDIGARH, FEBRUARY 4: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Bhupinder Singh Hanni, nephew of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, at around 2 pm on Thursday in the money laundering case. Hanni will be produced in the court in Mohali today.

On January 18, raids were conducted at Bhupinder Singh Hanni’s Mohali, Ludhiana and Pathankot locations in a case of illegal mining registered in the year 2018.

The ED had recovered Rs 7.9 crore from Bhupinder’s whereabouts, Rs 2 crore from the whereabouts of Bhupinder’s accomplice Sandeep, gold ornaments worth Rs 21 lakh and Rolex watch worth Rs 12 lakh.

The ED called Bhupinder Singh for questioning on Thursday at its Jalandhar office. During the interrogation that lasted for about 9 hours, Bhupinder Singh panicked and claimed his health was deteriorating before the ED officials. After which he was taken to a private hospital in Jalandhar.

At around 1 pm, the hospital claimed all the investigation reports of Bhupinder to be normal. After which Bhupinder Singh was arrested at 2 pm. Bhupinder will be produced by ED in Mohali court today.
