PM Modi directs IAF to join Operation ‘Ganga’

New Delhi, March 01: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called upon the Indian Air Force (IAF) to join forces in rescuing Indians stranded in Ukraine to augment the ongoing efforts under ‘Operation Ganga’.

Leveraging the capabilities of our Air Force will accelerate the process of return of Indians and ensure evacuation of more people in less time, sources said.

Simultaneously, relief material being sent from India will also reach faster. Several C-17 aircraft of the Indian Air Force may start flying under Operation Ganga today.

A large number of Indian students are stranded there due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. The Government of India is running Operation Ganga for the safe return of Indians from Ukraine.

Prime Minister Modi on Monday chaired two high-level meetings to review the ongoing efforts under Operation Ganga. The students are being brought to India via Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Romania. For this, special Indian representatives have been deployed on the borders of these countries with Ukraine.

The Indian government has deputed four of its senior ministers as its special envoys to various neighboring countries of Ukraine to expedite the evacuation efforts.
