New Delhi, July 22 : India has successfully launched Chandrayaan-2 from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, days after the lift-off was aborted due to a techincal snag. The GSLVMkIII-M1 took off at 2.43 pm as per schedule.
Scientists at the ISRO control room closely watched the rocket as it gained speed and headed towards the outer atmosphere, propelled by the massive thrust from the powerful 640-tonne ‘Baahubali’ rocket. The GSLV Mark 3 – ISRO’s largest and most powerful rocket – is 44 metres long or as tall as a 15-storey building.
ISRO Chief K Sivan said, I’m extremely happy to announce that the #GSLVMkIII-M1 successfully injected #Chandrayaan2 spacecraft into Earth Orbit. It is the beginning of a historic journey of India towards moon & to land at a place near South Pole to carry out scientific experiments.
Rajya Sabha Chairman & Vice President Venkaiah Naidu said, Chandrayaan2 has been successfully launched. I extend my heartiest congratulations to our countrymen on this momentous achievement. Our scientists deserve a special compliment, their achievement has enhanced country’s pride.

PM Modi said ,Chandrayaan 2 is unique because it will explore and perform studies on the south pole region of lunar terrain which is not explored and sampled by any past mission. This mission will offer new knowledge about the Moon.
PM also said that Efforts such as #Chandrayaan2 will further encourage our bright youngsters towards science, top quality research and innovation. Thanks to Chandrayaan, India’s Lunar Programme will get a substantial boost. Our existing knowledge of the Moon will be significantly enhanced.

The total weight of Chandrayaan-2 is 3.8 tonnes (3,850 kg). An Orbiter, a lander and a rover are also going to the moon in this Chandrayaan-2 structure. Their names are Chandrayaan-2 orbiter, Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover. ISRO launches Chandrayaan-2 on July 22 But lander Vikram will land on September 7, 2019 on the moon’s surface.
Chandrayaan-2 orbiter weighs 2,379 kilograms. It is 3.2 * 5.8 * 2.1 meters wide Its mission life is 1 year old. This orbiter will play an important role in the entire Chandrayaan-2 mission. Through this, it will be possible to connect between Vikram Lander, who descends on the surface of the Moon and ISRO scientists on earth. It will be present on the orbit of the moon. This will be sent to landowners on earth on the basis of Lander Vikram and Rover Pragyan on the surface of the Moon.
It is path-breaking, its important to highlight that this is the first mission in the world that is heading for the south side of the Moon, where no mission has gone before. This is the part of the moon that holds the possibility of the presence of water. If Chandrayaan-2 becomes successful, India will become only the fourth nation to land a rover on the lunar surface after the US, Russia, and China.
It is also India’s latest moon mission, is path breaking in many ways. One of them is its cost effective nature.
