Chandigarh, March 19: Arresting four accused in the Jalandhar International Kabaddi player murder case in Punjab’s Jalandhar, the police claimed that the conspiracy was hatched in the Canada.
The police have also registered a case against three persons who hatched the conspiracy while staying abroad.
On March 14, during the ongoing Kabaddi match in Mallian village of Jalandhar, five unidentified assailants shot and killed Kabaddi player Sandeep Singh alias Sandeep Nangal Ambiya.
Taking action in this case, the police have arrested Fateh Singh alias Yuvraj resident of Sangrur, Kaushal and Amit Dagar Chaudhary resident of Gurugram, Simranjit Singh, resident of Pilibhit, UP. The four accused have criminal background and are wanted in more than 20 criminal cases.
Meanwhile, the police have also named three main conspirators, which include Sanovar Dhillon, originally from Amritsar and presently resident of Burampton, Canada, originally from Moga and presently residing in Canada, Sukhwinder Singh, originally from Ludhiana district Jagjit Singh alias Gandhi. A case has been registered against the one who is currently residing in Malaysia. These three accused had hatched a conspiracy to kill a kabaddi player sitting abroad.
Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) VK Bhavra said on Saturday that Jalandhar Police had brought Fateh Singh on a production warrant. During interrogation, Fateh Singh revealed that Sanovar Dhillon had formed the National Kabaddi Federation of Ontario and was trying to get different players into his federation.
Fateh further told that most of the famous players were associated with Major League Kabaddi run by Sandeep, which was proving to be a failure for the Sanowar Federation. Fateh confessed that he had also pressured some players to join the Sanovar Federation.
Jalandhar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Satindra Singh said that Fateh has confessed that on the instructions of Sanovar, he along with Amit Dagar, Kaushal Choudhary, Jagjit Singh, Lucky Patyil and Sukha Duneke arranged the shooters to kill Sandeep.
He said that on the instructions of Sukha Duneke, Simranjeet alias Jujhar had provided hideout to the shooters at his relative Swaran Singh’s house in Pritam Enclave, Amritsar. Police have recovered 18 live cartridges and 12 bore rifle from Swaran’s house and have also named the absconding Swaran Singh in the case.
The SSP said that those who opened fire have also been identified and they will be arrested soon.
