New Delhi, March 25: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Roopa Ganguly broke down while speaking on the violence in Birbhum district in Rajya Sabha on Friday.
She raised the issue during Zero Hour and called it genocide and demanded imposition of President’s rule in West Bengal.
Ganguly said that the West Bengal government is giving protection to the killers. There is no state where after elections there is government sponsored violence.
She said, โIt is not a crime to be born in West Bengal. We also need the right to live. This is the land of Dakshineswar Mahakali.”
Rajya Sabha proceedings were affected for some time after her statement. Members of Trinamool Congress came in the middle of the house and created a ruckus. The ruling party also raised slogans on this. Seeing the uproar, the Deputy Chairman adjourned the House for about 25 minutes.
Referring to the post-mortem report, Ganguly said that the victims were first beaten up and then tied up and burnt alive.
