Interesting facts about dolphins
Dolphins, along with some species of turtles, crocodiles and sharks, are one of the oldest living creatures in the world. Dolphins were officially discovered in the Ganges River in 1801. Dolphins once lived in the Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna and Karnaphuli-Sangu rivers of Nepal, India and Bangladesh. But now the dolphin is on the verge of extinction.
Its number is increasing due to the efforts of the Central Government. According to World Wildlife, the number of dolphins is between 1200 and 1800.
The Ganges river dolphin can live only in fresh water and is essentially blind. They hunt by emitting ultrasonic sounds. They are often found singly or in small groups. Dolphins usually travel with their baby. Dolphins give birth to a calf once every two to three years.
