New Electricity Ceiling Law brings happiness among consumers

Lucknow, March 09: In the new law by the Central Regulatory Commission, the ceiling law of Rs 20 per unit of electricity on power exchanges has been changed to Rs 12.

On this, the Electricity Consumer Council of Uttar Pradesh has expressed happiness along with meeting former Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma and congratulating him.

Consumer Council President Avadhesh Kumar Verma said that for this the Energy Minister himself had recommended for a change in the law in the regulatory commission.

He said that during any power crisis in the entire country, the eyes of the Central Government have turned towards the power exchange, which seeks opportunities in the disaster. Whenever there is a power crisis, electricity is sold on the power exchange up to a maximum of Rs.20 per unit.

He further said, finally, after the long battle of the Consumer Council and the intervention of the Union Power Ministry, Government of India with the efforts of former Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma, now the maximum power ceiling for power exchange by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission Chairman PK Pujari and a three-member full bench is Rs 20 per unit. The law of maximum ceiling of Rs.12 per unit has been passed.

It is noteworthy that on October 14, 2021, Uttar Pradesh State Electricity Consumer Council President Awadhesh Kumar Verma held a long meeting with the then State Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma and prepared a proposal after discussion, regarding the ceiling of maximum electricity. In which a demand was raised on behalf of the consumer council that to prevent profiteering of power exchange, a new ceiling should be made at a lower rate by reducing the maximum ceiling of Rs 20. Now that fight was successful.

The software will now have a maximum ceiling of Rs.0 to Rs.12 per unit, on the basis of which the tenders for power purchases will be finalized, they cannot be at a higher rate.
