Barpeta (Assam), April 16: Barpeta police have seized 15 mobile handsets and 21 SIM cards from the arrested jihadis. Many books written in Arabic language have also been seized from the jihadis. It is being investigated whether books have anything to do with jihad or what is the role of books.
Police said on Saturday that all the jihadis were produced before the court, from where they have been sent to 10-day police custody for questioning. All the arrested jihadis were continuing jihadi activities in different areas of Assam while living in Barpeta, an affiliate of Al-Qaeda in Indian Sub-Continent (AQIS), influenced by Ansarul Bangla in Bangladesh.
Barpeta Superintendent of Police Amitabh Sinha said that six jihadis were arrested after interrogating a jihadi named Mohammad Suman, who was arrested along with other associates on March 5.
The superintendent of police said that they were inciting people to indulge in jihadi activities in various ways. The jihadis were secretly carrying out anti-national activities from their homes. Police said that the jihadis are using them as sleeper cells in different parts of Barpeta district involving many people in different types of jihadi activities.
