Prayagraj, 26 April: The Allahabad High Court has once again sought a personal affidavit from the Director General of Police (DGP) of the state regarding the action taken to check fraudulent activities. In these fraudulent activities, fraudsters/organizations call the common people about lotteries and fake offers of prizes to launder their hard earned money.
Justice JJ Munir expressed his displeasure over an affidavit filed by the DGP pursuant to the court’s order dated June 30, 2021.
In that order, the Court had observed that โThe Director General of Police, UP, Lucknow shall take immediate steps to unearth this massive racket of hardened criminals who are fraudulently luring innocent citizens with loans or lucrative offers about lucky draws so that hard earned money can be withdrawn from their pocket in this difficult time. The Director General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow will immediately issue circulars to the District Police Chiefs to take strict action against such acts.โ
Now on March 2, 2022, the Court asked the DGP, UP to file his personal affidavit as to what steps have been taken to comply with the said order.
In pursuance of this a personal affidavit was filed by Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Mukul Goel on March 9, 2022. However, the court said that they did not properly comply with the orders of the court.
Significantly, the Court had observed that a perusal of the personal affidavit filed by the Director General of Police reveals that it is a report given to a government agency or an educational body, which is generally taken up with respect to the law and order problem.
The court further observed that โthe Director General of Police has not uttered a word as to what has been done in compliance with the orders of this Court dated June 30, 2021. Second, there is no mention of how such activities should be curbed.
With this, the court has now asked the DGP to file the requisite personal affidavit within a week by April 28, 2022. The matter has been directed to be heard on April 28 for further hearing. The court has given this order in the case of Kuldeep vs. State of Uttar Pradesh.
