New Delhi, April 27: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, during a video conferencing (VC) discussion with the Chief Ministers of the states, requested that the states cut VAT in their states to give relief to the people from the soaring prices of petroleum products due to the global situation.
The concluding speech of the Prime Minister with the Chief Ministers of the states was telecast live.
In this, the Prime Minister urged the states to set an example of cooperative federalism.
He said that a situation of war has arisen in the world. This has affected the supply chain. In such an environment the challenges are increasing day by day.
He said that in view of the increase in oil prices, the Central Government had cut the excise tax on petroleum products last year. In view of this, some states have also made cuts here. He said that due to this deduction, the revenue of both the Center and the state is coming down, but it is giving relief to the people.
Giving some examples, the Prime Minister mentioned the cuts made by the states, the reduction in prices and the revenue deficit of the states.
He said that Maharashtra, West Bengal, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu for one reason or the other did not listen to the words of the Central government and the public of those states continued to be burdened. PM Modi urged that in November, the Central Government cut excise tax, now the states should benefit their citizens by reducing VAT.
