Kapurthala, 29 April: Security has been beefed up in Punjab after several railway stations and religious places were threatened to blow up.
On the statement of the Station House officer (SHO) Rajveer Singh of Kapurthala police station, GRP Jalandhar has registered a case against unknown people.
According to the Punjab police, the name of the threat person has been written in the letter as Salim Ansari, who has identified himself as the Jammu and Kashmir area commander of the terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed.
SHO Rajveer Singh told the media on Friday that he had received a letter on April 27 in the afternoon wherein it was threatened that many railway stations of Punjab including Jalandhar, Sultanpur Lodhi, Lohiyan Khas, Ferozepur Cantonment, Phagwara, Amritsar, Tarn Taran will be bombed.
According to the threat written in the letter, many railway stations of Punjab including Jalandhar, Sultanpur Lodhi, Lohian Khas, Ferozepur Cantonment, Phagwara, Amritsar, Tarn Taran have been said to be blown up on May 21. There has been a threat to blow up Devi Talab Temple in Jalandhar, Kali Mata Temple in Patiala, and Hanuman Garhi Temple in Phagwara on May 23.
Apart from this, many other leaders including Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Governor Banwari Lal Purohit, Ferozepur Railway General Manager Seema Sharma have also been threatened with death.
He said that this threatening letter written in Hindi on the page of an English notebook has been sent by an e-mail to the station master of Sultanpur Lodhi railway station. After receiving the letter, the police department and intelligence agencies have tightened security at police stations and religious places across the state.
DGP Punjab VK Bhavda said that the police are on high alert to maintain public security and law and order in the state.
