New Delhi, May 21: The central government has decided to reduce the price of petrol and diesel to give relief from inflation. The government has announced to lower the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 8 and Rs 6 per liter respectively.
Apart from this, the government will give a subsidy of Rs 200 on domestic cooking gas under the Ujjwala scheme. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has given this information by tweeting on Saturday.
Nirmala Sitharaman said that with this decision of the government, petrol will become cheaper by Rs 9.5 per liter and diesel by Rs 7 per liter.
Sitharaman said that due to this decision of the government, there will be a burden of about one lakh crore rupees annually on the exchequer.
She added, along with this, under the Ujjwala scheme, the government will give a subsidy of Rs 200 on domestic cooking gas up to 12 cylinders, which will cost about Rs 6100 crore annually.
Apart from this, the Finance Minister has appealed to all the state governments to give relief to the public by cutting VAT.
She has specifically asked those states to reduce the price of petrol and diesel, which have not cut VAT from November 2021.
It is noteworthy that in the capital Delhi, petrol is Rs 105.41 per liter and diesel Rs 96.67 per liter. In the country’s financial capital Mumbai, the price of petrol is Rs 120.51 per liter and the price of diesel is Rs 104.77 per liter. Petrol in Kolkata costs Rs 115.12 per liter, while diesel costs Rs 99.83 per litre.
Similarly, petrol is getting Rs 110.85 per liter in Chennai and Rs 100.94 per liter of diesel. However, Brent crude remains at $ 111.22 per barrel and the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude at $ 110.85 per dollar in the international market.
