Road Safety drive: 15,119 illegal encroachments removed in UP

Lucknow, May 28: Road safety drive is being carried out across 75 districts of the state from May 19.

Under this, action has been taken against illegal encroachment, illegal vehicle stands and parking operators on the roads and footpaths of all the districts.

During the campaign going on in every district, the Gangster and Goonda Act were also imposed on the identified operators. Not only this, many vehicles were also confiscated.

Under this, various agencies of the government launched massive drive against illegally operated autos, taxis, and bus stands. During this, 567 stands were marked and 573 stands were removed. Action was taken against 20 stand operators under Goonda Act and Gangster Act was also imposed against two.

Large-scale action was also taken against illegal encroachment along the roads. During this, 3749 campaigns were launched by the government to remove illegal encroachments along expressways, national highways, public works department roads, city roads and roads.

During this, 15119 illegal encroachments were removed. A case was also filed against 1104 people for illegal encroachment. At the same time, strict action was also taken against illegal parking, in which a total of 8929 encroachment sites were removed from the roads.

Along with this, 1018 illegal parking places were also removed. Action was taken against three parking operators under the Goondas Act. In this, the Gangster Act was also imposed against two parking operators. 1404 black spots have been identified by the National Highways Authority of India and the Public Works Department. Signage boards are also being put up near them. More than 85,000 vehicles were checked.

For driving two wheelers at a speed exceeding the prescribed speed limit, 3836 challans were made and a fine of Rs 17, 38000 was collected.

Similarly, a fine of 19, 05300 was collected by challaning 4374 four wheelers. 76,613 drivers were checked, out of which 1240 drivers were found in an inebriated condition and challaned. 3417 vehicles were driven for speeding.
