Bizarre writ: Plea filed in SC seeking Nupur Sharma’s arrest

New Delhi, 14 June: A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking the arrest of expelled BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma in connection with the alleged controversial statement on Prophet Mohammad.

Advocates Abu Sohail and Chand Qureshi have said in their petition that the image of our great nation has been tarnished because of Nupur Sharma’s statement.

The petition states that Nupur Sharma, as a BJP spokesperson, while debating on a TV program on May 27, insulted the religion of Islam and used derogatory language about Prophet Mohammad. She sowed the seeds of tension in the country by making provocative and communal statements on the TV channel.

The petition also states that Nupur Sharma’s statement violates Articles 14, 15, 21, 26 and 29 of the Constitution. It has been said in the petition that because of Sharma’s statement, the image of our great country has been tarnished all over the world. There has been a demand to issue guidelines for a fair investigation of the entire matter.
