New Delhi, July. 28 : Asserting the lack of clarity over leadership at the top following Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s resignation, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Sunday said the way forward for the party could be opening up all key posts, including the CWC (Congress Working Committee) membership to fresh elections, which would help in legitimising the incoming set of leaders.

The Congress Lok Sabha from Thiruvanthapuram  also backed the Punjab chief minister, Capt. Amarinder Singh’s statement that a young leader would be suitable to lead the Congress at the current juncture.

On being asked if the party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would contest for the elections on the post of the party chief , Tharoor was hopeful that Priyanka would be ready but added that final  decision would be taken by the Gandhi family on whether she would contest as party chief or not.

In an interview to a leading media source, Tharoor expressed his disappointment with the prevailing situation in the party and asserted that there was no clear answer to the embarrassment the party leaders in Congress were facing.

Tharoor said he was hopeful that CWC was taking the current situation seriously and taking all efforts in finding a solution without further delay.

Tharoor said that election process within the party would be  a healthy way to legitimise the mandate being offered to the President.

Though, Tharoor dismissed the speculations over him contesting for the Congress presidency post and would support the party in all its endevour.
