Lucknow, 30 July: These days, inmates in Uttar Pradesh jails are busy manufacturing flags. They are providing one lakh tricolours to the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Anand Kumar, director general of prisons, stated that five prisons in the state have already begun producing the flags, with more to follow soon.
“The endeavour is our effort to contribute to the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a government initiative to honor and remember 75 years of independence, as well as the wonderful history of its people, culture, and achievements,” Kumar explained.
Kumar stated that an initial goal of 1 lakh flags was established. We are also arranging for additional activities in addition to flag stitching from August 11 to 17,” he stated.
He also stated that this will assist prisoners become self-sufficient and integrate into society once they are freed.
According to a senior official in charge of the preparation, the inmates are trained on the ratio of the colors in the flag before they are made. “When sewing, we must bear in mind that threads of various colors do not become linked to one another. It is then cut to size with a machine and sewn according to instructions. Following that, professionals inspect it, and the printing of the Ashok Chakra is the penultimate stage before final packing. All of this labor is done solely by convicts,” Kumar explained.
