Lucknow/ Mirzapur, August 23: After West Bengal,a nutrition scam has come to light in Uttar Pradesh.A video which has been loaded in this connection has already gone viral.
In the video shown on Friday,students of a government primary school has been shown eating “roti” with salt.Like other states in the country,the UP had launched the mid-day meal programme.This school in Mirzapur district was covered under central scheme.
An inquiry has been ordered by district magistrate Anurag Patel.A teacher has been already suspended in this connection.
Another nutrition scam was reported from West Bengal some time back.Two teachers were suspended.Unlike UP it had taken place in a girls school. Children were served rice with salt there.The UP school has about 100 students.
The mid-day meal scheme ,it may be recalled, launched by the Centre with aim to improve health of school -going children, has been provided Rs 12,000 crores in the Union budget for the current financial year.
Under the scheme,children are to be provided pulses,rice, rotis and vegetables. Fruits and milk are also to be provided on certain days.
According to reports reaching here,vegetable and pulses were rarely given to the children in the school.Often rice was served with salt.Fruit or milk was a dream item.
An inquiry in other other parts of the state may bring some more such facts to light.
