AAP govt in Punjab raises VAT on petrol & diesel, leading to increase in fuel prices

New Delhi, June 11: The Punjab government raised the Value-Added Tax (VAT) on fuel by 10% on Sunday, raising the price of petrol and diesel in the state by 92 and 88 paise per litre, respectively.

According to a state government statement, the rise in VAT would result in a one rupee per litre increase in fuel and diesel prices. Petrol will now cost โ‚น 98.95 per litre in Mohali, while diesel will cost โ‚น 89.25 per litre.

Petrol will cost โ‚น 96.20 per litre in Chandigarh, while diesel will cost โ‚น 84.26 per litre. The state’s fuel costs have been raised for the second time this year.

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that if worldwide prices remain constant, oil firms may lower petrol and diesel costs.
