New Delhi, April 21: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will not contest the Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor election. This announcement was made by former Chief Minister of Delhi and Leader of Opposition Atishi and AAP Delhi Convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj at the party office here on Monday.
He said that AAP will not field a mayor candidate in the election this time. This makes it clear that now the triple engine government of Bharatiya Janata Party is going to be formed in Delhi. Mayor election in Delhi will be held on April 25.
Atishi alleged that BJP had stopped the Delhi Municipal Corporation election earlier also and the wards were shifted around during delimitation.
She said that tremendous irregularities and corruption were done during delimitation. Despite this, BJP lost the election and AAP government was formed in the corporation. Even after this, a lot of drama was created by BJP councilors in the Delhi Municipal Corporation meetings. After that we decided that this time we will not field our candidate in the mayor election.
Atishi said that AAP will play the role of a strong opposition in Delhi Municipal Corporation. She alleged that BJP did a lot of rigging during the Delhi Municipal Corporation elections, despite which it lost badly. Even after this, BJP did not stop and all the councillors of AAP were broken in some way or the other in the last two and a half years.
Atishi said that AAP does not do the politics of sabotage and horse-trading, so this time we will not contest the Delhi Municipal Corporation Mayor election. She said that now BJP should form its triple engine government in Delhi and fulfill the promises made to the people of Delhi without any excuse.
AAP Convenor Saurabh Bhardwaj said that BJP’s desperation for power is clearly visible from the day the date of Delhi Municipal Corporation elections was fixed in Delhi. Be it delimitation by postponing the elections or division of wards according to BJP or rigging in the elections of Mayor and Standing Committee and breaking of mikes, all these are part of the same.
