Patna, 7 Nov: According to the Caste Survey report tabled in the state legislature on Tuesday, more than a third of Bihar households live on Rs 200 or less per day, or maximum monthly earnings of Rs 6,000, while the percentage of SC-ST families living on comparable income is over 43. According to the survey, the state is home to over 2.97 crore households, with over 94 lakh (34.13%) living on an income of Rs 6,000 or less per month.
The literacy rate has increased from 69.8 percent in 2011 to 79.8 percent, according to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, who introduced the data.
The percentage of Scheduled Tribe families (42.91%) who live on less than Rs 6000 per month or less than Rs 200 per day was about the same as the percentage of Scheduled Caste households (42.78%).
In the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav, among others, Chaudhary tabled the entire report, the preliminary results of which were made public on October 2.
Chaudhary described the effort as “historic” and vowed that the data were “authentic,” dismissing charges made by the opposition BJP that the numbers had been “manipulated” to benefit the governing Mahagathbandhan alliance politically.
