Acharya Laxmikant Dixit, chief priest of Shri Ram Lalla consecration ceremony, cremated at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi

Varanasi, June 22: Acharya Laxmikant Mathuranath Dixit, a vedic scholar of Kashi, who performed the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ of Ram Lalla (infant form of Lord Ram) in the sanctum sanctorum of the newly built Shri Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, has been cremated on Saturday. His last rites were performed at Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi. His eldest son Jairam Dixit lit the funeral pyre.

Dixit died in the morning. He was 82 years old and was battling age-related diseases for a long time. He breathed his last at his residence in Panchganga Ghat, Varanasi.

On receiving the news of Dixit’s death, a wave of mourning ran among the learned society, acquaintances and well-wishers of Kashi. A large number of people reached his residence to express condolences. A large number of people also participated in the last journey from the residence.

Laxmikant Dixit’s family originally came to Kashi from Solapur district of Maharashtra. In Kashi, Laxmikant Dixit was counted among the eminent scholars of Yajurveda. Pandit Laxmikant Dixit led 121 other acharyas as the chief acharya in the Prana Pratishtha of Shri Ramlala in Ayodhya on January 22. All the rituals of Prana Pratishtha of Shri Ramlala were performed under his supervision.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the death of Laxmikant Dixit. Adityanath wrote in his condolence message in X Post that the departure of Acharya Laxmikant Dixit, Vedamurti, a great scholar of Kashi and the chief priest of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi ‘Pranapratishtha’, is an irreparable loss to the spiritual and literary world. He will always be remembered for his service to Sanskrit language and Indian culture. It is a prayer to Lord Shri Ram that he may give a place to the departed soul in his lotus feet and give strength to his disciples and followers to bear this sorrow.
