New Delhi, 25 October: The Election Commission has made film actor Rajkumar Rao a national icon. A program in this regard will be organized at All India Radio’s Rang Bhawan on Thursday.

The Commission is continuously making efforts to remove apathy towards elections among the youth. In this sequence, first Sachin Tendulkar and now Rajkumar Rao have been made national icons.

It is noteworthy that two months ago, cricket legend and Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar was made ‘national icon’ by the Election Commission for voter awareness and education.

An MoU in this regard will be signed with the actor at a program organized at Akashvani Rang Bhawan, New Delhi in the presence of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goyal.

The Election Commission of India has been associating itself with eminent Indians from different walks of life and nominating them as National Icons of the Election Commission of India to inspire voters to participate in the festival of democracy.

The Commission had last year recognized famous actor Pankaj Tripathi as a national icon. Earlier, during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, stalwarts like MS Dhoni, Aamir Khan and Mary Kom were the national icons of the Election Commission of India.
