New Delhi, 30 September: Aditya L-One spacecraft has now covered a distance of more than 9.2 lakh kilometers from the Earth. It is now finding its way towards the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point (L1).

On Saturday, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), while sharing information on the social networking site ‘X’, said that the spacecraft has successfully escaped the Earth’s sphere of influence and has covered a distance of more than 9.2 lakh kilometers from the Earth. It is now finding its way towards the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point 1 (L1).

ISRO said this is the second consecutive time that a spacecraft has been sent outside the Earth’s sphere of influence, the first time a spacecraft for the Mars Orbiter Mission was sent outside the Earth’s sphere of influence.

It is noteworthy that India created history by launching Surya Mission Aditya L-1 on September 2. The spacecraft launched through PSLV-C57 will go to its L-1 point 15 lakh km away from the Earth and monitor the Sun from there. Now the spacecraft is at a distance of more than five lakh kilometers from the L-1 point.

What is the meaning of Lagrange point?

According to ISRO, the place where Aditya L-1 spacecraft will go is called L-1 i.e. Lagrange Point One (1).

This distance is only 1 percent of the distance between the Earth and the Sun. The Lagrange point between the Earth and the Sun is the only place from where the Sun can be seen without any eclipse or obstruction. There are five Lagrange points between the Earth and the Sun.
