Advisory: News channels should avoid provocative, sensational headlines: I&B Ministry

New Delhi, 23 April: The Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Ministry has expressed displeasure over the debate show being held on the Jahangirpuri violence and Russia-Ukraine war.

The ministry has pulled up news channels to refrain from provocative, anti-social and unparliamentary headlines.

In this regard, the Ministry has issued guidelines for TV channels and asked them to strictly follow the instructions of Cable Television Networks (Regulation Act) 1995.

The I&B Ministry has clarified that channels not following the guidelines may be banned. The advisory states that Section 20 of the Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 empowers the Centre to take appropriate steps against TV channels. It has been mentioned in the advisory that if any program does not follow the set instructions, then action will be taken against it.

In the instructions issued by the ministry, it has been said that false claims about Ukraine-Russia on TV channels and false quotes are constantly being made by international agencies, which had nothing to do with the news and journalists and journalists to provoke viewers.
