Moradabad, March 23: The Sambhal police has arrested advocate Zafar Ali, president of the controversial Jama Masjid Committee of Sambhal, on Sunday in connection with the violence that took place in Sambhal four months ago on November 24. He is accused of giving inflammatory statements.
The arrest has been made after facts came to light in the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigation.
In this regard, ASP Shrishchand said that he has been made an accused in the riot of 24 November. On the other hand, security has been increased in the city. Apart from the police of many police stations, PAC and RAF have been deployed. The officers are also doing flag marches.
Zafar Ali Advocate’s brother Tahir Ali has accused the police administration officers of trying to spoil the atmosphere. He also said that his brother had to record his statement before the judicial inquiry commission on Monday. Therefore, the police have taken action in a planned manner.
He said that his brother had told the commission that the bullet was fired by the police and five people died in this. Before he could go to record this statement, he was arrested. He said that his brother will record the same statement even while staying in jail.
It is worth mentioning that there have been altercations between Advocate Zafar Ali and police officers many times before. The Jama Masjid Committee president had also accused the police of firing during the riots on November 24.
