Sultanpur, 7 Dec: A magisterial probe has been ordered and an FIR has been filed against an education department official after a government school headmaster in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district committed suicide after being admonished for being absent from work, authorities said on Thursday.
Surya Prakash Dwivedi, 52, the headmaster in charge of Chitta Junior High School in the Kudwar district, consumed poison on Monday and died on Tuesday at a hospital in Lucknow.
His corpse was cremated on Thursday after top administrative and police authorities told his family that their demands would be investigated, and a FIR was filed against Kudwar Block Education Officer (BEO) Manojit Rao.
According to an official, the BEO has also been relieved of duty and sent to the office of the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA).
District Magistrate Kritika Jyotsna and Superintendent of Police Somen Burma paid a visit to the headmaster’s family on Thursday.
Following consultation with family members, their complaint was forwarded to the Kudwar police station for the filing of a FIR against the BEO under sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
The district magistrate ordered a magisterial probe into the situation. According to authorities, SDM Sadar C P Pathak will undertake the investigation and submit a report within 15 days.
According to the family’s complaint, Dwivedi was on leave on Saturday to care for his sick son when the BEO arrived at the school for an inspection.
When Dwivedi called to explain his absence, the BEO scolded him. Hurt by this, Dwivedi allegedlyconsumed a toxic chemical Monday afternoon. He was sent to a local government hospital and then to Lucknow.
