Kolkata, 03 Sept: Mitali Roy, a former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA from Dhupguri, has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in North Bengal, only two days before the vital Dhupguri bypolls.
Roy won the Dhupguri assembly seat on a TMC ticket in 2016, but lost to BJP candidate Bishnupada Roy in the 2021 elections. She was observed canvassing for the TMC candidate in the Dhupguri bypoll just two days ago. Mitali Roy is a well-known figure in north Bengal.
Sukanta Majumdar, the BJP’s state president, was present when Mithali Roy joined the party today. Sukanta Majumdar then stated that Mitali had dropped 24 kg in the previous year through yoga and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is her motivation.
Mitali Roy was seen campaigning for TMC candidate Arup Bishwas in the Dhubguri bypoll. She also met with Arup Bishwas before embarking on campaigning spree.
According to insiders, Mitali Roy was dissatisfied with the TMC leadership since, after losing the 2021 assembly election, the party’s senior leadership had not contacted her or called her to any meetings or rallies.
Amit Malviya, state co-incharge, posted on X, “In another sure sign that Mamata Banerjee is losing control, Mitali Roy, former TMC MLA from Dhupguri, who also contested the 2021 Assembly election on a TMC ticket, joins BJP ahead of bypoll.”
Mamata Bannerjee is not taken seriously in the Opposition coalition for a reason. Her political standing in her native state has deteriorated.” TMC has yet to respond to Mitali Roy’s allegations.
