New Delhi, March 11: Private sector telecom company Bharti Airtel has signed an agreement with Elon Musk’s company SpaceX to bring satellite internet service Starlink to India. However, this deal will be implemented only when SpaceX gets permission from the Government of India to sell Starlink services.
The company told the stock market in a regulatory filing on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with Elon Musk’s SpaceX to bring high-speed internet service Starlink to India. Under this agreement, Airtel will provide high-speed internet services to its customers in India through SpaceX’s satellite internet division Starlink.
According to Airtel, the goal of this partnership is to provide reliable broadband services in remote and internet connectivity-deprived areas.
According to the company, this agreement is an important step towards strengthening digital connectivity in India and providing advanced internet service to consumers.”
The company said that under this agreement, Airtel and SpaceX will explore the possibilities of offering Starlink equipment in Airtel’s retail stores. Possibilities will be explored to offer Starlink services to business customers through Airtel. Apart from this, the possibility of connecting communities, schools and health centers and providing service in rural areas will be explored.
It is worth mentioning that Starlink works to connect remote areas to fast internet through satellite. In this, the company provides a kit which includes router, power supply, cable and mounting tripod. For high-speed internet, the dish is placed under the open sky. Apart from this, Starlink’s app is available on iOS and Android, which does everything from setup to monitoring.
