All efforts will be made to move forward with consensus to run the country: PM Modi

New Delhi, June 24: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that all efforts will be made to move forward with consensus while staying within the ambit of the Constitution to serve the people of the country.

Addressing the media outside Parliament before the start of the first session of the 18th Lok Sabha, which started today, the Prime Minister said that today is a proud and glorious day for parliamentary democracy, because for the first time after independence, the swearing-in ceremony will take place in the new Parliament. The Prime Minister congratulated all the newly elected MPs.

Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to the citizens for electing the government for the third time and said that this seals the government’s intentions, policies and dedication towards the people.

Prime Minister stressed that in the last 10 years we have tried to establish a tradition because we believe that majority is required to run the government, but consensus is extremely important to run the country.

He said that the constant endeavour of the government has been to serve Maa Bharati with consensus and by taking everyone along to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of 140 crore citizens.

Describing the formation of this Parliament as a means to fulfill the resolutions of the common man of India, the Prime Minister said that this is an important opportunity to achieve new speed and height with new enthusiasm. He said that the 18th Lok Sabha is starting from today to realize the goal of building a developed India by 2047.

He said that this is only the second time after independence that the country has given its mandate to a government to serve for the third time. He said, โ€œThis occasion has come after 60 years which makes it proud in itself.โ€

Underlining the need to take everyone along and increase the pace of decision-making within the ambit of the Indian Constitution, the Prime Minister expressed happiness over the number of young MPs taking oath in the 18th Lok Sabha.

Targeting the Congress, the Prime Minister reminded the country of the Emergency, saying that tomorrow, 25 June, the Emergency is completing 50 years. He said that it is a black spot on Indian democracy.

He said that the new generation of India will never forget that day when democracy was crushed and the Constitution of India was completely negated and the country was turned into a prison. The Prime Minister called upon the citizens to take a pledge to protect India’s democracy and democratic traditions so that such a situation never arises again.

Prime Minister said, “We will take a pledge for a vibrant democracy and fulfill the dreams of the common people as per the Constitution of India.”

Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the responsibility of the government has increased threefold, as the people have elected the government for the third term.

He assured the citizens that the government will work three times harder than before and will also bring three times better results.

Talking about the role of the opposition, Prime Minister Modi said that the people of the country expect them to play their role fully while maintaining the dignity of democracy. He said, “I hope the opposition will live up to this.” Modi stressed that people want meaning instead of slogans.

He expressed confidence that the MPs will try to fulfill the expectations of the common citizens.

Underlining the responsibility of all the MPs, the Prime Minister said that they should collectively fulfill the resolution of a developed India and strengthen the trust of the people.
