Prayagraj, 13 June: Allahabad High Court has rejected the bail application of mafiso Mukhtar Ansari, accused in the case of misuse of MLA fund.

The High Court has asked the state government to conduct an audit of the misuse of MLA funds by a committee consisting of the Speaker and three bureaucrats.

The High Court said that more than 50 cases are registered against Mukhtar Ansari at different places, but he has not been punished in a single case so far.

Rejecting Ansari’s bail application, the High Court said there is no need to reveal Ansari’s identity because of his Robin Hood reputation in Hindi-speaking states. Ansari, associated with the world of crime since 1986, has more than 50 criminal cases registered against him, but till date he has not been punished in any case. He is a white collar criminal and remains a challenge to the justice system. He was elected MLA while in jail.

25 lakh rupees were given from the MLA fund for the school, which was not used and he also digested it. Taxpayerโ€™s money was misused. Therefore, he is not entitled to be released on bail.

The High Court said that in view of the criminal history of the mafia, granting bail is not appropriate.

Justice Rahul Chaturvedi has given this order on the bail application of Mukhtar Ansari.

The court said that the bail granted to the other accused cannot be granted parity in view of the criminal history of the petitioner. The court had reserved the verdict on May 20 after a long debate in this matter.

It is noteworthy that in the FIR lodged against Mukhtar Ansari and four others at Sarai Lakhansi police station in Mau district, there is an allegation of misuse of MLA fund. School construction work was not done and money was wasted.

The petitioner said that no action was taken against the officers who allocated the MLA fund whereas the fund is released by him. Being an MLA, he has been implicated.

The court has refused to release him on bail in view of the reputation of the petitioner and his involvement in crimes and in spite of being in jail since 2005, he has not been convicted in any case.
