Prayagraj, December 10: The Allahabad High Court has banned teachers from Basic Education Council from taking up the work of Booth level officer (BLO) for vetting of voters’ list and sought a response from the state government.

This order has been rendered by Justice Pankaj Bhatia on the petition of Rakesh Vishwakarma and three others.

The court has given this order based on the instructions given in the Sunita Sharma case and Shri Krishna case.

The petitioner states that under Section 27 of the Compulsory Education Act 2009, basic school teachers are prohibited from taking non-academic work in addition to census, disaster relief, and election duty. The task of revising the voter list is not included in the election duty and no election is going to take place right now. In such a situation, it is against the law to send teachers on BLO duty, on which the court has given this order.
