Lucknow, July 2: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will travel to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, to attend an event commemorating the birth anniversary of Sonelal Patel, a renowned Kurmi activist and Apna Dal founder on Sunday.
Apna Dal (S) is a political party in the state most recognised for its influence among the Kurmi population. The event’s main guest will be Shah. Apna Dal (S) president Anupriya Patel, Sonelal Patel’s daughter, invited the union minister.
Patel is a union minister of state in the central government and her party a member of the NDA. The late leader’s birth anniversary festivities are significant ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections since the Kurmi community has been a big vote bank for the BJP since 2014.
Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav, the chief of the Samajwadi Party, will attend an event commemorating the legendary leader’s birth anniversary. The celebration will be hosted by the Kamera Chetna Foundation, the social wing of the Apna Dal (Kamerwadi) managed by Sonelal Patel’s wife Krishna Patel.
