New Delhi, 8 August: The Election Commission announced by-elections for seven assembly seats in six states on Tuesday. All these seats will go to the polls on Tuesday, September 5, and the results will come on September 8.
According to the Election Commission, elections are to be held in Dumri in Jharkhand, Puthuppally in Kerala, Boxanagar and Dhanpur in Tripura, Dhupguri (SC) in West Bengal, Ghosi in Uttar Pradesh, and Bageshwar in Uttarakhand. Notification for all these seats will be issued on August 10.
The Dumri, Puthuppally, Boxanagar, Dhupguri, and Bageshwar seats fell vacant after the deaths of Jagannath Mahto, Oommen Chandy, Samsul Haque, Vishnu Panda Ray, and Chandan Ramdas, respectively. Whereas, the Dhanpur and Ghosi seats are vacant due to the resignations of Pratima Bhowmik and Darasingh Chauhan, respectively.
