Moradabad, 02 January: The survey of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) continued on Thursday for the 13th consecutive day in the ancient stepwell found in Muslim dominated locality Laxmanganj in Chandausi of Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh.
The work of excavation and soil removal of the ancient stepwell is underway under the direction of the ASI team. From the first day till today, excavation has been done upto about 35 feet in the stepwell. 50 labourers of Chandausi Nagar Palika were deployed in cleaning the stepwell till around 5 pm. After this the excavation was stopped. Now excavation will be done again on Friday.
Executive Officer of Chandausi Nagar Palika Krishna Kumar Sonkar said that with the cooperation of three-member team of ASI and Nagar Palika, dozens of labourers were busy in the excavation of the stepwell on Thursday also. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the second floor of the stepwell, stone structures, tunnel-like paths and dozens of stairs were visible, which were cleaned. The work of cleaning the entire structure of the stepwell’s well and corridors is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the vigil of the police and PAC has become strict after a person blew a conch shell and distributed some pamphlets in the stepwell four days ago on Sunday. The local administration has banned the entry of outsiders in the stepwell premises.
