Moradabad, March 15: The team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) reached the disputed Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh with workers on Friday afternoon for painting. First of all, the length and breadth of the mosque was measured. After this, the painting work is expected to start from Sunday.

Advocate Zafar Ali, the head of the mosque, said that on the instructions of Allahabad High Court, the painting work of the mosque has to be completed within seven days. On Saturday at around 11:30 am, two ASI officials reached the mosque for inspection with workers. At present, the length and breadth of the mosque has been measured. ASI officials say that their senior officers are also coming. As soon as they arrive, the painting work will also start.

Advocate Zafar Ali also clarified that the appearance of the mosque will not change due to painting. As before, green, golden and white colours will be used for painting the mosque. ASI officials have also been informed about this.

It is worth mentioning that during the hearing on March 12, the High Court had ordered painting of the outer walls of the mosque. The ASI team has arrived after the court order amid the Sambhal Shahi Jama Masjid-Harihar Mandir dispute.
