Lucknow, 20 April: On Thursday, the SIT apprehended three associates of Lavlesh Tiwari, one of the suspects in the murder of don Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf. The three were arrested and questioned at the Banda railway station. According to sources close to the investigation, the trio was teaching Lavlesh how to handle a camera as a television journalist.
The SIT teams then went to Hamirpur and Kasganj districts to learn more about the other two arrested suspects, Mohit Singh alias Shani and Arun Maurya. The operation was predicated on the interrogation of Lavlesh Tiwari, Arun Maurya, and Mohit Singh alias Shani, who are now being held in police custody for four days.
CP Prayagraj Ramit Sharma constituted the three-member SIT team to help the team in getting info on motive behind the murders of Atiq Ahmad and his brother Khalid Azeem alias Ashraf.
The squad also includes DCP Satish Chandra, ACP Satyendra Prasad Tiwari, and Om Prakash, an officer from the Kotwali police station. On the other side, Prayagraj and Kaushambhi police used a drone to search for Atiq’s wife Shaista Parveen, but were unable to locate her.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Police tightened the noose around gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari’s wife Afsa and set a ?50,000 reward for her capture. Mukhtar Ansari is presently imprisoned in connection with multiple criminal proceedings filed against him and his associates on allegations of land grabbing, murder, and extortion.
