Lucknow, 19 April: The shooters of gangster Atiq Ahmed will appear before the CGM court in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Wednesday, where the Special Investigation Team has filed an application requesting detention for questioning for the three suspects.
The police have sought their arrest by submitting an application with the Chief Magistrate, requesting 14 days in jail. Due to the event on April 15 night when Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were slain in police presence while being transported for a medical examination, security was strengthened when transporting them to court. The accused are being kept away from the media. On Monday, the three assailants were transferred from Prayagraj’s Naini Central Jail to the Pratapgarh district jail.
“All three shooters are under threat of attack behind bars, so they have been transferred to a high-security cell and are kept under CCTV surveillance,” according to government sources.
On Saturday night, while being brought for a medical checkup in Prayagraj, Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf Ahmad were shot dead by men acting as press personnel. After being shot at practically point-blank range, both the gangster fell on the spot.
On April 16, the district court sentenced the three shooters, Arun Maurya, Sunny Singh, and Lovelesh Tiwari, to 14 days in judicial detention. On April 16, gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were laid to rest in a family graveyard in Prayagraj’s Kasari Masari neighbourhood.
