Gorakhpur, April 16: Murtaza, who attacked the PAC jawans deployed in the security of the Gorakhnath temple, was produced by the ATS in the Gorakhpur court on Saturday.
Meanwhile, tightening the noose on Murtaza Abbasi, the ATS has slapped the UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) in the case. After hearing the arguments of the prosecution, the court transferred Murtaza’s case to the ATS court, Lucknow and sent him to jail for 14 days in judicial custody.
On April 3, Murtaza Abbasi attacked the security personnel posted at the Gorakhnath temple. Along with registering a case against him at Gorakhnath police station, on April 4, he was presented in the court and remand was sought. The police had got Murtaza on remand till April 11 for questioning. Meanwhile, on April 5, the case of the ATS was transferred and Murtaza came in the custody of ATS. On April 11, the ATS produced him in the court and sought extension of his remand.
The court extended Murtaza’s remand for five days. In this way, the ATS got Murtaza on remand till April 16. For two days, the ATS interrogated Murtaza in Gorakhpur and took him to Lucknow on Wednesday night. Now Murtaza has been produced again in the court on Saturday.
However, the main objective of UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) is to prevent terrorist activities. Under this, the police identify such criminals or suspects, who are involved in terrorist activities. Prepare people for terrorist activities or encourage such activities. The ATS/NIA (National Investigation Agency) has a lot of powers in such cases.
