Lucknow, October 28: Senior Samajwadi Party leader and Rampur MLA Mohammad Azam Khan’s assembly membership has been terminated after being sentenced by the court for making inflammatory speeches. Rampur assembly seat has been declared vacant. Now there will be by-elections.
Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana canceled the membership of Azam Khan on Friday after getting the court’s order. The Vidhan Sabha Secretariat has also sent information to the Election Commission regarding the declaration of Rampur seat vacant. Now the Election Commission will announce the by-election for this seat.
It is worth mentioning that Rampur’s Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate First and Special Judicial Magistrate MP-MLA Nishant Mann on Thursday sentenced Azam Khan to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of six thousand rupees in the inflammatory speech case.
In fact, in the 2019 parliamentary elections, Azam Khan made indecent statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in an election meeting. Along with this, he had also used abusive words for the then District Magistrate of Rampur. The video of his statement was circulated and an FIR was lodged against him in this case at the same time.
