Fatehpur, 13 Feb: A woman from the Malwa police station in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district alleged that her father-in-law harassed her and threatened to spread an indecent video clip. When she objected, an attempt was made on her life.
“When my husband in Bahrain learned about this, instead of challenging his father, he divorced me,” she told reporters.
On Tuesday, based on the victim’s complaint, police filed a case of dowry harassment and molestation against the accused father and son and began an investigation.
Sangeeta Singh, in-charge of the Fatehpur women’s police station, told media that the incident had been brought to their attention. A report is being submitted, and an investigation is being conducted.
In her complaint to the police, the woman stated that she married Khalid Ali, son of Safdar Ali, a resident of Kidwai Nagar, Kanpur, in 2015. She has two daughters. Since her marriage, her father-in-law and husband have harassed her for dowry. Currently, her husband Khalid is in Bahrain, and she stays with her daughters at her in-laws’ home.
The victim claimed that on December 20, 2023, while she was alone at home, her father-in-law attempted to molest her with evil intentions. When objected, he took a different approach. The father-in-law recorded a video of her while she was showering and began blackmailing her to accede to his demands. When she objected, an effort was made to murder her by strangulation.
She somehow managed to extricate herself from her father-in-law’s grip and proceeded to another room, closing the door from inside.
The victim stated that when I told my husband about the event via video conference, he instructed me to do as my father suggested.
“When I objected, my husband began abusing me and issued me triple talaq. He then stated, in a menacing tone, that it is not Modi’s rule here to do anything to me,” she claimed while narrating her unending ordeal.
Following the event, the victim went to her parents’ house with her two girls to tell them about her trauma. Following this, a report was filed at the police station.
