New Delhi, May 29: The Supreme Court registry refused to accept Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking extension of interim bail by one more week in Delhi Excise Scam case, ending Kejriwal’s hope of staying out of jail ensuring that he will have to surrender on June 2.
The Supreme Court registry refused and said that since the decision on challenging Kejriwal’s arrest has already been reserved, his plea to extend interim bail has no connection with the main plea. The Supreme Court has also allowed him to go to the trial court for regular bail. Therefore, this plea is not admissible for hearing.
Kejriwal had said that he is suffering from a serious illness and his PET-CT scan has to be done. It is noteworthy that on May 10, the Supreme Court had granted interim bail to Arvind Kejriwal till June 1 and ordered him to surrender on June 2.
The court had granted bail on the basis of a personal bond of โน 50,000 and a surety of โน 50,000. It is noteworthy that after Arvind Kejriwal did not get protection from arrest from the Delhi High Court on March 21, the ED questioned him late in the evening on the same day. After this, he was arrested.
