New Delhi, Oct.02: On the occasion of Gandhiji’s birth anniversary, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has ended the house arrest of some leaders in Jammu. After the removal of Section 370, the local police had arrested several leaders in Jammu as a precaution.
Former minister and Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan
Party president Chaudhary Lal Singh was also placed under house arrest.
Internment has been lifted from the leaders of
all opposition parties under house arrest in Jammu. The leaders whose detention
has been removed include leaders of National Conference, Congress, Panthers
Party.
Apart from Chaudhary Lal Singh, president of Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party, the leaders whose detention has been removed include the names of Devendra Rana and SS Salathia of National Conference, Raman Bhalla of Congress and Harsh dev Singh of Panthers Party. These leaders were placed under house arrest from 5 August.
Taking a major decision on 5 August, the Central Government had abolished the status of Special State from Jammu and Kashmir and divided the State into 2 parts and also defeated Article 370. With this decision, the government also kept many opposition leaders of the state under house arrest.
After the decision on Article 370, the local police arrested Chaudhary Lal Singh, former minister and president of Dogra Swabhiman Organization Party, as a precautionary measure.
Lal Singh is the first leader of Jammu who was under house arrest. Chaudhary Lal Singh was not allowed to leave his government residence in Gandhinagar, Jammu.
Not only Jammu, many leaders of Kashmir were also under house arrest. These included former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah and other leaders. At the same time, senior National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah had said that people are being imprisoned in the Kashmir Valley.
