Bill to declare Diwali a national holiday introduced in US

Washington, 28 July: A bill demanding a declaration of a holiday on the Diwali festival was introduced in the US House of Representatives.

A large population of Hindus, Sikhs, Bouddha, Jain and others in America celebrate Diwali. A holiday should be declared on the day.

The bill was introduced by a lawyer turned politician Grace Meng. She said that Diwali should be declared a national holiday in the US.

Meng said that it is not only about a national holiday, but beyond those who celebrate Diwali truly understand the culture and contributions of so many people who celebrate Diwali. She always wanted t make sure that the US holidays match those of the communities.

The struggle for the Diwali holiday is going on for over a decade. Indian Americans is one of the biggest communities in America and have a major contribution in the US.
