Maharajganj, 9 July: Following receipt of the first installment of the PM Awas Gramin
Yojana, around 11 married ladies eloped with their boyfriends in Uttar
Pradesh’s Maharajganj area.
The government plan helps poor and middle-class
families build a permanent home.
Sanjay, a guy, said that his wife, Suniya,
went missing after receiving the scheme’s first installment of βΉ40,000.
Preliminary inquiry by the Block Development Officer indicated that Suniya had
eloped with an unknown individual, taking the Rs 40,000 government-released
tranche.
In the Maharajganj district, around 2,350 recipients just got their
PMAY scheme payment. Ten more such incidents involving husbands reporting their
wives missing followed.
Suniya’s father-in-law asked the government to transfer the remaining two payments to
his son Sanjay’s account. Money was transferred to our daughter-in-law’s
account, and we subsequently discovered she had run away with a male. “We
demand that the government send money to my son’s account,” he stated.
Condemning exploitation of the plan, Maharajganj District Magistrate Anunay Jha stated,
“It has come to our attention that the first installment of the Pradhan
Mantri Awas Yojana was misused by 11 women who did not use it to build houses.
The relevant department has been instructed to initiate legal action against
the recipients and reclaim the monies.β However, this is not the first such
instance.
Previously, four ladies from Barabanki district went away with their
partners after collecting Rs 50,000 as part of the initiative.
