Gonda, 21 Dec After donating a kidney to save her brother’s life, a woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda was given triple talaq by her husband over WhatsApp.
Mohammad Rashid, victim Tarannum’s husband who works in Saudi Arabia, grew enraged about the kidney donation and wanted โน 40 lakh from Tarannum. On August 30, he sent her a triple talaq message in response to her rejection.
Rashid and Tarannum married 20 years ago, but Rashid eventually relocated to Saudi Arabia for work. The couple do not have children and Rashid, according to Tarannum, took a second wife. Her brother, Mohd Shakir, had renal failure and was being treated in Mumbai. Tarannum underwent kidney donation surgery around five months ago to save his life.
Tarannum returned to her in-laws’ house in Gonda after the operation, when the quarrel with her husband worsened, resulting to his issuing her triple talaq over WhatsApp. Tarannum has been compelled to live with her parents as a result of the event. She has taken legal action against her spouse by filing a police report.
Radheshyam Rai, Additional Superintendent of Police, acknowledged that an FIR has been filed and that the proper steps are being taken.
