Lucknow, January 2: The effect of snowfall and westerly winds on the mountains is being seen in the plains of Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday, the temperature suddenly plummeted of almost of the entire state. The Meteorological Department told that cold wave likely to get worse in the coming days due to snowfall.
Chandrashekhar Azad Agricultural Technology University’s meteorologist Dr SN Sunil Pandey said on Thursday that western disturbances are very active in the mountains these days. Due to this, there is heavy snowfall. Western winds are affecting the Gangetic plains of Uttar Pradesh resulting in chilled winds and dropping of the minimum temperature of Kanpur which was 10 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, reached 5 degrees Celsius today. Due to the sudden drop in temperature by 5 degrees Celsius, the bone-chilling cold jumped and people shivered in their houses. Along with this, there was fog in the sky and visibility was also limited to 400 meters instead of 2 kilometers. Due to this, vehicles were seen crawling on highways and roads.
He further said that the way snowfall is occurring on the hills and the western disturbance is active, the cold wave will show its fierce form in the days to come. In such a situation, to avoid the cold wave, especially the elderly people should stay home and take the help of bonfire. Along with this, taking a walk in the morning and evening can be harmful these days. However, this cold or cold wave will be very beneficial for crops, especially the wheat crop. At the same time, there is a possibility of Aphid disease in potato and mustard crops. In such a situation, farmers should spray medicines.
