New Delhi, 28 December: The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has approved the emergency use of two corona vaccines Corbevax and Covovax and one drug Molnupiravir amid the threat of new variant Omicron in the country.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has given this information by tweeting on Tuesday. He also congratulated all the Indians for this.
Corbevax vaccine is India’s first indigenously developed RBD protein sub-unit vaccine. It has been made by Hyderabad based firm Biologicals-E.
At the same time, the nanoparticle vaccine Covovax has been manufactured by the Pune-based firm Serum Institute of India (SII). The anti-viral drug Molnupiravir will now be manufactured by 13 companies in the country.
It is noteworthy that so far eight vaccines of corona have been approved in India. This also includes India’s indigenously manufactured vaccines Covishield and Covaxin. The highest numbers of Covidshield doses have been administered in India. Both these vaccines have also been approved by the World Health Organization.
