London, 19 Feb: The British Government has banned the use of mobile phones by students in schools. The ban has been imposed to improve communication between the administrators and the students, improving their attention and preventing disturbances in the process of learning.

The ban is not restricted to the classrooms but also includes breaks and lunch hours. Education Secretary Gillian Kigan said that the ban was imposed after discussion with teachers and heads of schools. The data collected says that 97 percent of students at the age of 12 possess a smartphone. This affects their attention. It was also said that children up to the age of 16 years should be kept away from social media access. Many of them get information about arms and serious crimes.

The Association of School and College Leaders has also expressed concern over the uncontrolled use of mobile phones by children. The time spent by the children on the phone is a cause of concern. Some schools initiated steps in this direction. The government rules would further strengthen the initiative.
