Lucknow, 1 May: Shaista Parveen, the widow of slain gangster Atiq Ahmed, is still on the run in the Umesh Pal murder case. According to authorities, the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF) was on the verge of apprehending Shaista Parveen four days ago in Prayagaj, but the ‘woman don’ escaped with the aid of locals.

The police had clear evidence that Shaista Parveen was in the Hatwa region of Prayagraj. According to reports, she was seen near the home of Ashraf Ahmed’s (Atiq’s brother who was also slain) in-laws.

According to police sources, as the STF squad arrived to conduct the operation, women in burqas encircled them. The police were unable to proceed, and Shaista Parveen took advantage of this by fleeing.

According to reports, as the STF team arrived, an announcement was made from the nearby mosque, requesting women to leave their homes and congregate on the streets. Shaista took advantage of the commotion and fled.

Earlier, UP Police visited Naini jail and questioned Atiq’s lawyer Khan Soulat Hanif, a close confidant of the gangster who is serving a life sentence in Umesh Pal’s kidnapping case. According to Hanif’s information, Shaista Parveen met ‘woman don’ Mundi Pasi before to the murder of Umesh Pal. According to police sources, Mundi Pasi, who is out on bail in multiple criminal cases herself, has been assisting Shaista Parveen with her escape and providing her with intel.

Near the Kaushambi border, police are looking for Mundi Pasi and Atiq’s gunner Ehtesham. Ehtesham, a former police officer, is thought to have played a key part in Shaista Parveen’s escape. Ashraf’s wife Zainab and sister Ayesha Noori are also missing, along with Shaista Parveen. Police have also learned the identities of some of Shaista Parveen’s other supporters. Asif alias Malli, an assistant of Guddu Muslim, the bomber accused in the Umesh Pal murder case, is one of them.

Shaista Parveen has been on the run since she was designated an accused in the murder of Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case, who was shot dead along with two police guards in Prayagraj’s Dhoomanganj police station area.
