Lucknow, 19 November: The round of meetings ended on Monday evening for the by-election to be held on Wednesday on nine assembly seats of the state, but the campaign on foot gained momentum. Candidates and supporters went door-to-door to convince people and started making strategies to bring their voters to the booth. Political parties are sending voter lists to their respective booth presidents.
On the other hand, the Election Commission has made full preparations for this. A total of 3718 polling stations have been set up in all nine areas. Voting will start from 7 am on Wednesday.
By-elections are to be held in nine assembly seats of the state, Mirapur, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair, Karhal, Sisamau, Phulpur, Katehari, Majhawan.
The Election Commission said that voting will go on from 7 am to 5 pm on Wednesday. 843 heavy vehicles, 762 light vehicles and 16318 polling personnel have been deployed to complete the election process. 5151 EVM control units, 5171 ballot units and 5524 VVPATs have been prepared for voting. There are a total of 90 candidates in this election.
To conduct this election, the commission has deployed nine general observers, five police observers and nine expenditure observers. A total of 3718 polling stations have been set up in nine assembly constituencies. Out of these, 1917 polling stations are such that will be monitored from Lucknow. Sufficient paramilitary forces have been deployed to conduct the election peacefully. Live webcasting has been arranged at 1994 polling stations.
A total of 74 model polling stations, 10 all women managed polling stations, 7 all youth workers polling stations and 6 all handicapped managed polling stations have been set up for the by-election.
The election officer said that apart from the voter photo identity card, 12 other identity cards will be valid for voting. Information about the voting percentage will be sent to the media every 2 hours.
